Practice Areas: Labor, Employment, Business, Gaming, Environmental Law and Complex Litigation with special emphasis on employment law and traditional labor representation involving union matters and collective bargaining in both the private and public sectors.
- Tom represents startup companies, established businesses and their principals throughout all stages of the business life cycle. He serves as general counsel to many closely held and family owned businesses and routinely counsels clients on a wide range of corporate and transactional matters including entity selection and formation, ownership agreements, family business succession planning, corporate governance, employment agreements, governmental relations, mergers and acquisitions, raising capital and intellectual property protection.
- Tom has a vast array of accomplishments in the labor and employment law field, both in the public and private sectors, as follows: negotiated collective bargaining contracts in the private and public sectors; conducted certification and decertification elections, arbitration, fact-finding, and grievance hearings; appeared before the NLRB and the State Employee Representation Board (SERB); advised clients on substance abuse and testing, union avoidance, and plant closings' advised employers regarding discipline and discharge; and represented employers in federal and state courts in matters arising from various state and federal employment laws such as discrimination, retaliation, wrongful discharge and whistleblower claims.
- Tom also has a wide range of experience representing clients in the chemical, manufacturing, transportation, waste recycling and environmental industries, the health care field, and the gaming industry as well as clients in the public sector.
- Tom has been an adjunct lecturer at both Cuyahoga Community College and Lake Erie College in American government and Business Law. He has also conducted several presentations which include “Living with Unions”; “Withdrawal Liability in the Construction Industry”; “History of the Labor Movement in the United States”; and “Labor and Employment Law Current Issues and Answers.”
- Tom joined the firm in 2011, and is admitted to practice law in Ohio, Florida and the District of Columbia.
